Minister of Justice, Ahmed Al-Ziadat, confirmed during a speech he delivered on Thursday, during Jordan’s pleading before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, on the role of the hashemite guardianship in preserving the historical status of the holy places in occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Ziadat said during his pleading that it consists of three parts: “I defined in a comprehensive view the Jordanian role and the Hashemite family in the guardianship of the Islamic and Christian holy places” in addition to “ideas about evidence of more than 3,000 pages about Israeli violations, and the consequences of the Israeli violations.”
He explained that “Jordan and the Hashemite royal family have an important role in the historical guardianship of the Islamic and Christian holy places and it is of importance to the whole world; because it preserves the historical status of the holy sites and the holy places in Jerusalem.”
He pointed out that the city of Jerusalem is “holy to all religions, Muslims, Christians and Jews, and it must remain the city of peace”, explaining that “preserving the current situation and the status of this city is the key to peace for the sake of justice and peace.”
Al-Ziadat mentioned that Jordan, which manages the administrative affairs of the religious holy places: “takes all measures within its capabilities to preserve the Islamic and Christian holy places.”
He pointed out that His Majesty King Abdullah II, the guardian of the holy places in Jerusalem: “makes efforts to preserve the holy places in Jerusalem, and represents the interests of the holy places in the international and global platforms and international organizations by all legal means.”
Al-Ziadat clarified that Israel itself recognizes and respects the Jordanian role in the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem.
Al-Ziadat touched on the Israeli violations in the holy places since 1967.
Al-Ziadat referred to “major violations that took place such as the continuous excavations around and under the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which threaten its sovereignty and structure.”
He said that the Israeli violations in the Islamic and Christian holy places violate the peace treaty.
