The German Special Envoy for Humanitarian Issues in the Middle East, Ambassador Daike Potzel, praised Jordan's efforts under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in delivering and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
This came during her meeting with a number of journalists on Monday, on the sidelines of her fourth visit to Jordan since the start of the war on Gaza, to hold discussions with her Jordanian counterparts on how to increase the flow of aid to Gaza.
The German envoy said that her country supports Jordanian efforts for the people in Gaza wherever possible, whether that is through necessary medicines and medical equipment, such as pacemakers or surgical supplies for Jordanian field hospitals in Gaza, or through supplying the Air Force. The Royal Jordanian government provided the necessary fuel for aircraft to carry out airdrops over Gaza.
She pointed out the participation of the German Air Force since mid-March in the international air bridge to Gaza, where it carried out 24 airdrops of more than 150 tons of relief materials.
She confirmed that she met the German plane crew participating in the airon Sunday, and said that Jordan, Germany, and international partners are making an important contribution through the airdrops in order to deliver the necessary assistance to the Palestinian people.
She explained, "We know that sending aid by air or sea is not enough, and that ensuring the arrival of more aid by land is essential and must continue."
She said that in the past few weeks, Germany and Jordan have worked closely with the United Nations in order to expand the scope of the Jordanian corridor, which It transports aid to Gaza by land, adding that to this end, Germany will provide an additional 4 million euros to purchase the trucks and fuel needed for the relief convoys.
She indicated that the German government, since last October, has increased humanitarian support to civilians in Gaza by three-fold, with more than 180 million euros, bringing the total support to about 255 million euros to date. In addition, the German government had announced on March 25 the provision of 45 million euros. For UNRWA in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank, Germany remains one of the largest donors of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territories.
She continued that she discussed with the Jordanian dialogue parties the work to develop concrete and practical solutions to simplify and accelerate the process of transferring humanitarian aid from Jordan directly to Gaza, stressing that Germany will continue to support Jordan’s efforts in any way we can.
