His Majesty King Abdullah II, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein, chaired a meeting on Sunday to review the government's progress on the National Water Conveyance Project (Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project).
The project stands as one of Jordan's largest strategic initiatives under the Economic Modernization Vision, aimed at securing the Kingdom's water future.
Key Directives from His Majesty:
Infrastructure Readiness: The King emphasized the necessity of ensuring that the current water sector infrastructure is fully prepared and technically aligned with the project's requirements.
Comprehensive Evaluation: He stressed the importance of studying all financial, technical, and legal dimensions to strengthen national water security through proactive planning.
Timeline Commitment: His Majesty directed the government to strictly adhere to the project's established timeframe and to maintain transparency with the public regarding its stages and goals.
Project Scope and Progress:
The meeting, attended by HRH Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, included a briefing on the government's steps toward finalizing the definitive agreement and reaching financial close within the coming months.
The project is designed as a partnership between the government, the private sector, and the international community. Once operational, it is expected to provide approximately 300 million cubic meters of potable water annually by desalinating and pumping Red Sea water from the Gulf of Aqaba to Amman and other governorates across the Kingdom.
