Fares Karama
Amman — Since His Excellency Mazen Al-Qadi was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, it has become clear that the chamber has entered a different phase in its style of management — one built on calm, discipline, and a distancing from theatrics. Many observers see this as a departure from the approach taken by several of his predecessors, with the political environment he grew up in, surrounded by prominent statesmen and politicians, clearly shaping his character and performance in the role.
Al-Qadi did not come to the Speaker's post with the mindset of a politician chasing popularity or headlines, but with the mindset of a statesman who understands that leading the House is a national responsibility — not a platform for showing he intends to stay in power — and that this constitutional institution requires balanced management that preserves its standing and handles disputes within the framework of order and law.
To his credit, Al-Qadi has taken a distinct approach to running sessions from day one. He has not been quick-tempered or reactive, nor has he raised his voice or engaged in shouting matches with MPs. Instead, he has chosen wisdom and quiet firmness, adhering closely to the chamber's internal bylaws — an approach that has shaped the institution's image and performance.
This approach draws on years of accumulated experience in positions of responsibility, as well as his upbringing in a political and patriotic family known for its service to the state — giving him a deep understanding of how institutions function and the importance of preserving their standing, free from improvisation or knee-jerk reactions.
Although some initially questioned his ability to manage the chamber and bet on his tenure faltering, reality has proven otherwise. He has succeeded in establishing a balanced character and a management style rooted in respect for everyone, while not allowing any breach of order or any harm to the chamber's standing.
