​His Majesty King Abdullah II and French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Jordan’s hosting of the conference on December 7, 2026, viewing it as a key milestone in translating the political momentum achieved by the Global Initiative to Reinforce Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law into renewed commitment and concrete action.
​The King and the French President called on countries to participate in the conference at the highest possible level and contribute effectively to its success.
​Both leaders affirmed their shared commitment to enhancing respect for international humanitarian law and ensuring its application, emphasizing the necessity of placing the rules of war back at the forefront of international political priorities amid unprecedented challenges facing civilian protection in armed conflicts.
​The King and President Macron noted the progress achieved under the Global Initiative to Reinforce Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law, which was launched in September 2024 by Jordan, France, Brazil, China, Kazakhstan, and South Africa in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and which 118 countries have joined so far.
​The announcements came in a joint statement issued by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the French Republic at the conclusion of talks between His Majesty King Abdullah II and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
