- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Wednesday that the incident involving the Flydubai plane was "very serious," noting that he instructed the security establishment to prepare for further potential threats.
Netanyahu added that Israeli authorities are continuously following up with relevant entities to ensure the safety of the aircraft's passengers, noting that the majority of them are Israeli.
He pointed out that one of the pilots stabbed the other pilot, then apparently attempted to crash the aircraft.
Netanyahu said Saudi authorities have detained the co-pilot of the Flydubai flight and are interrogating him.
For its part, Flydubai stated that an altercation occurred in the cockpit of a flight en route from Dubai Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport on Wednesday.
It added that its crew successfully secured the aircraft by diverting its course and landing safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia.
The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew members are safe and accounted for, noting that it is too early to determine the causes and motives behind the incident, which is currently subject to an official investigation.
