French President Emmanuel Macron spoke on Thursday in separate phone calls with US President Donald Trump and the Canadian Prime Minister to discuss the global energy situation.
During the calls, Macron emphasized the need for joint action to combat rising fuel prices and ensure the supply of refined petroleum products.
Élysée Palace sources stated that France intends to hold a conference call with G7 leaders to coordinate measures regarding energy prices and supplies.
Macron noted that G7 nations share a mutual interest in acting in a coordinated manner without imposing any restrictions on exports.
Brent crude and US oil futures declined following reports of a potential release of diesel and crude oil reserves in Europe.
A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that any agreement regarding the release of reserves must include a commitment from the United States to refrain from enacting a diesel export ban.
According to sources, France is proposing a plan to release 50 million barrels of diesel from European emergency reserves alongside 50 million barrels of crude oil from International Energy Agency (IEA) member states.
