Jordanian national Mohammad Faiq Al-Hashaisheh, known to his acquaintances as "Abu Fares," was killed inside a tobacco store in Chicago, USA, following an incident that began when he refused to sell cigarettes to a 17-year-old youth, according to accounts provided by his family.
According to details conveyed by the family, the teenager entered the shop at approximately 9:27 PM local time on Thursday and asked to purchase cigarettes. Al-Hashaisheh declined the sale as the youth was under the legal age, asking him to present identification to verify his age.
The youth left the store after refusing to provide ID, only to return later. According to Al-Hashaisheh's relatives, the suspect opened fire, striking him in the throat with a bullet that exited through the back of his neck, resulting in fatal injuries.
The family stated that US authorities have identified the shooting suspect, with law enforcement actively searching for him to make an arrest, complete the investigation, and refer him to the judiciary.
Al-Hashaisheh's death sparked widespread grief and shock among the Jordanian and Arab communities in Chicago. The Hashaisheh tribe in Jordan and the United States mourned his passing, demanding a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident and holding the perpetrator accountable to the full extent of the law.
Authorities in Chicago are continuing their investigation into the case, with final details pending official announcements from US law enforcement agencies.
