AMMAN — Building on its recently secured top position among national institutions in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027—where it placed in the 376–400 bracket globally out of 2,297 evaluated universities—Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) continues to consolidate its standing as a cornerstone of Jordanian higher education and a major destination for international students.
The university's trajectory reflects long-term administrative planning and targeted infrastructure investments overseen by Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Under this strategic framework, AAU has integrated rigorous academic recruitment, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and institutional governance to align its educational outcomes with global standards.
Beyond overall ranking metrics, AAU achieved 22nd place globally in the International Outlook indicator, positioning it among the top 1 percent of universities worldwide in this category. This performance underscores the university’s capacity to attract international talent and foster a diverse, cross-cultural campus environment.
The influx of international students to AAU supports Jordan's broader economy. Overseas enrollment drives activity across various national sectors—including real estate, housing, transportation, retail, and local services—demonstrating the role of higher education as both an academic asset and an economic driver for the Kingdom.
Founded in 1990 as Jordan's first private university, AAU's sustained presence in international classification frameworks highlights the evolution of its academic ecosystem, reinforcing Jordan's reputation as a regional hub for quality higher education and scientific research.
