Representing His Majesty King Abdullah II at the MED9 Summit of Southern European Nations in Croatia, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II emphasized Jordan’s position as a strategic gateway linking the Middle East and Europe during discussions held under the theme "Towards Greater Security, Sustainability, and Resilience in the Mediterranean Region."
The Crown Prince called on the international community to step up efforts to ease regional tensions, ensure freedom of navigation in international waterways, and address the fundamental drivers of conflict.
His Royal Highness noted the far-reaching impacts of the ongoing war involving Iran, pointing to direct security attacks on some states alongside global economic burdens, such as elevated inflation, energy deficits, and supply chain disruptions. He affirmed that Jordan has felt the direct repercussions of these dual pressures.
Reiterating the centrality of the Palestinian cause, Crown Prince Al Hussein highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to persistent restrictions on aid delivery, including relief shipments sent from Jordan.
His Royal Highness reaffirmed Jordan's firm opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians, calling it a breach of international law that must be halted immediately. He also warned against continued violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem, including attacks by Israeli settlers, stressing that the two-state solution remains the only path to a lasting peace.
Regarding Syria and Lebanon, the Crown Prince stated that Jordan is actively collaborating with partners to bolster regional sovereignty, stability, and development against the backof ongoing military strikes.
Highlighting economic cooperation, His Royal Highness underscored the potential for joint initiatives with MED9 nations in energy, trade, and technology. He identified major investment opportunities within Jordan in electrical grid interconnections, renewable energy, rail infrastructure, digital integration, and logistical corridors, noting that these ventures will be presented at the upcoming Jordan-European Investment Conference scheduled in the Kingdom in November.
