His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks in Canberra on Wednesday with Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn, focusing on ways to elevate relations between Jordan and Australia alongside overall regional developments.
His Majesty expressed pride in the close bilateral relations, which marked 50 years since their establishment last year, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation in education, trade, and private sector investments in energy, infrastructure, technology, and mining.
His Majesty the King appreciated the support provided by Australia to Jordan in vital sectors, as well as its role in supporting the relief efforts of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's Charitable Organization in Gaza.
His Majesty noted the Kingdom's keenness to increase tourism exchange between the two countries, highlighting the opportunity to encourage Australians interested in religious tourism to visit Jordan to attend the 2000th anniversary of Jesus Christ's baptism in 2030 at the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Al-Maghtas).
Addressing regional developments, His Majesty the King stressed the necessity of intensifying international efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and restore the stability of Arab nations and the security of their peoples, praising Australia's positions in support of achieving regional peace.
His Majesty also warned of the danger of continued Israeli attacks against Palestinians and the Israeli government's use of regional conditions as a pretext to impose a new reality in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza.
The talks covered developments in Syria and Lebanon, reiterating the importance of supporting the security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of both countries.
For her part, Mostyn expressed pride in the depth of relations between Australia and Jordan and the eagerness to expand them across various sectors, praising the Kingdom's efforts toward stability and de-escalation, as well as Jordan's humanitarian role.
Upon His Majesty the King's arrival at Government House in Canberra, an official reception ceremony was held for His Majesty, and he signed the distinguished visitors' book.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Ala'a Batayneh, and Jordan's Ambassador to Australia Janti Kalajoqa.
